Harry Edwards grew up in Ulverstone where he attended Ulverstone High School and Don College. At 23 he is currently studying at the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart.

Harry is a late-comer to visual arts and it was not until 2007, after deferring his law studies at the University of Tasmania, that he first picked up a brush.

Since then Harry has discovered the beauty of oils, and has become passionate about painting. His work has been described as "modern surrealist" (SAUCE Magazine), and makes use of surreal landscapes, stylised portraits, and vivid colours.

Harry finds significant inspiration in music, particularly styles within which there is an onus on improvisation. Within this exhibition, he tributes some of his major influences; Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong and Kenny Burrell. He is also fascinated by the Tasmanian land and sky-scapes.

His passion for painting is synonymous with his passion for music; Harry recently performed in the Devonport Jazz Festival, and the Classical Meets Jazz Festival.

He held his first solo exhibition in May 2010 at Nourish Café in Hobart, but has also been involved in several group shows including this years Youth Art Exhibition at the Devonport Regional Gallery, and several exhibitions at the Brisbane Hotel, Hobart.

Harry Edwards was a finalist in the 2009 and 2010 Tasmanian Youth Portraiture Prize, which includes a touring exhibition of the state.

Upon finishing his studies, Harry aims to establish an art/music studio somewhere in Tasmania, where he can focus on his painting practice, and teaching guitar.
